Neon Genesis Evangelion Series

I just finished watching the original series and I am planning on watching the The End of Evangelion. My question is do I need to watch the other movies (1.0, 2.0, etc.) to get a better understanding of the series? Also, are there any more part that I should be aware of with regards to the series? Thank you!
